WORK PLAN PROPOSAL OF PFAS SITE CHARACTERIZATION AT THE GUSTAVUS AIRPORT
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), State of Alaska, proposes to conduct site characterization of the PFAS plume at the Gustavus airport. The draft work plan (attached), authored by Shannon & Wilson, Inc. on behalf of DOT&PF, is to be issued for public notice with a 10-day comment period to allow those with knowledge of the proposed area stated within the work plan an opportunity to provide the department and its contractor with local knowledge that could impact the mission of the project.
The intent of this notice is informal and the department will not be issuing a response to comments other than confirmation that they were received. Once all comments have been received by DOT&PF and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the draft work plan will be reviewed and modified to reflect any applicable changes based on comments received. As the regulator, final approval of the methodology and overall plan falls on DEC.

All comments must be submitted electronically to airportwater@alaska.gov and must be received by 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021 after which the department PFAS Coordinator will work with State of Alaska subject-matter experts to review each comment. The department reserves the right to correct technical defects, premises description, term, or purposes and may reject any or all applications or comments.
