Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development

 

The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will hold a regular quarterly meeting on December 9, 2020, via audio conference. To help mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the offices and boardroom of the Department of Education and Early Development in Juneau have been closed to public in-person traffic. Public participation for the meeting will be through the digital platform Zoom. The board meeting will begin on December 9, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend this meeting by joining online through the digital platform Zoom or by joining via phone. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a work session and a business meeting.

 

Topics at the work session include a COVID-19 update from the Department of Health and Social Services; a COVID-19 update from Mt. Edgecumbe High School and the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums; along with a department legislative update. The board will review their annual report to the legislature and hear an update on the 220-2021 school enrollment numbers. The board will also hear a special presentation regarding the Mt. Edgecumbe High School endowment and land issues from the Office of the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff Randy Ruaro and Chuck Clement, President and Chief Executive Officer of SEARHC.

 

Topics at the business meeting include  standing reports on the department’s divisions and the commissioner’s report, and will approve their annual report to the legislature. They will also consider approval of the June 10-11, 2020 board meeting, September 16-17, 2020 board meeting, and October 21, 2020 work session meeting minutes.]

 

The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items on December 9 2020, starting at approximately 9:10 a.m. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. For comment regarding regulations the board is considering for adoption, only oral comments may be provided at this time, as the written comment period has closed. Public comment can be made for this meeting, during this time only, by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://zoom.us/j/99391482721 or by calling 1-253-215-8782 and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad. To mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, in-person testimony will not be permitted. In the event there are more than two hours of public comment, the board may move to amend the agenda to extend the oral hearing.

 

The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board also reserves the right to adjourn at a time later than estimated on the published agenda.
