Manley Airport Improvements
NFAPT00371
Open Comment Period
Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), proposes to construct improvements at the Manley Hot Springs Airport in Manley Hot Springs, Alaska. The proposed project would include:
- Construct new apron adjacent to the existing snow removal equipment building (SREB) pad.
-
Construct General Aviation (GA) aircraft tie downs on the new apron.
-
Construct new taxiway.
-
Install medium intensity taxiway lighting.
-
Install apron lighting.
-
Apply dust palliative to operational surfaces.
-
Apply seeding to newly constructed apron and taxiway sideslopes.
-
Extend existing Alaska Dept. of Commerce, Community and Economic Development leases.
Materials are anticipated to be contractor furnished, and sourced at a local, previously developed site. Construction for the proposed project is scheduled to begin in late spring of 2022, and be completed by October 31, 2022.
Project activities were components of a 2013 airport construction project, but not completed due to fiscal considerations. It was determined then that the project would encroach on the 100-year base floodplain. Potential floodplain impacts were then analyzed, considered insignificant and approved. A new Location Hydrology Study was performed in November, 2020 and similarly found that the proposed project will not increase base flood elevation, involve work in a regulatory floodway, or result in longitudinal or significant encroachments. Floodplain impacts are therefore considered insignificant.
This proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f) and will be developed in accordance with the following Executive Orders (EO):
EO 11990 Wetlands Protection
EO 11988 Floodplain Protection
EO 12898 Environmental Justice
