NOTICE OF UTILITY TARIFF FILING
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that Waste Connections of Alaska, Inc. d/b/a Alaska Waste (WCA) filed TA135-692, seeking to update its residential disposal surcharge. WCA proposes an increase of the residential disposal surcharge from 9.48 percent to 22.36 percent. The increase in WCA’s residential disposal surcharge is due to an increase in the Municipality of Anchorage disposal fees from $65.75 per ton to $69.73 per ton at the Regional Landfill, and from $76.38 to $81.02 at the Central Transfer Station. The proposed disposal surcharge is calculated by multiplying the 12 month trailing disposal component by the percentage change in the disposal fee. A sample of the disposal surcharge increase can be seen in the table below.

WCA proposes a one-time adjustment of 3.03 percent to the disposal surcharge to recover under-collected disposal expenses. Alaska Waste states that it discovered that the currently effective disposal surcharge did not incorporate the per ton recycling incentive fee.
