BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Board of Dental Examiners proposes to update regulations regarding license qualifications for dentists and dental hygienists.
The Board of Dental Examiners (Board) proposes to adopt regulation changes in Title 12, Chapter 28 of the Alaska Administrative Code including the following:
1. 12 AAC 28.932. Additional documentation for licensure, is a proposed new section that will
allow the Board to require additional information from the applicant to substantiate qualifications
for licensure of a dentist or dental hygienist.
2. 12 AAC 28.935. Dental hygienist licensure by examination, is proposed to be amended by
repealing the requirement to obtain a Professional Background Information Services (PBIS) report
and require certain documents to be submitted to the department from agencies.
3. 12 AAC 28.937. Dental hygienist licensure by credentials, is proposed to be amended by
removing the requirement to obtain a PBIS report, require the applicant to submit certain
documents to the department, and request certain documents to be submitted directly to the
department from agencies.
4. 12 AAC 28.940. Dental licensure by examination, is proposed to be amended by altering the date
for a mannequin based examination, repealing the requirement to obtain a PBIS report, and requires
certain documents to be submitted to the department from the agencies.
5. 12 AAC 28.951. Dental licensure by credentials, is proposed to be amended by removing the
requirement to obtain a PBIS report, require the applicant to submit certain documents to the
department, and request certain documents to be submitted directly to the department from other
agencies.You may comment on the proposed regulation changes, including the potential costs to private persons of complying with the proposed changes, by submitting written comments to Sher Zinn, Regulations Specialist, Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing, P.O. The comments must be received not later than 4:30 p.m. on November 23, 2020. Comments received after this deadline will not be considered by the Board.

The Board may, but is not required to, answer written questions received after the 10-day cut-off date and before the end of the comment period.
