Land Use Permit for River Bank Revetment on the Delta River near Delta Junction - LAS 33228

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land, and Water, Northern Region Office has received an application from Whitestone Community Association (WCA) for a land use permit for a root wad bank stabilization project on state managed uplands and shorelands of the Delta River.  The applicant has requested a term of 1 year.

LOCATION

The proposed project site is located adjacent to the Richardson Highway at mile 275, near the City of Delta Junction, AK.  The riverbank revetment is located on the east side of the Delta River, approximately 0.4 miles south of confluence with the Tanana River.  The land is within:

Fairbanks Meridian, Township 9 South, Range 10 East, Section 8.

PROPOSED PROJECT

WCA proposes to install a root wad revetment to stabilize approximately 500 feet of bank on the Delta River.  The purpose of the revetment is to protect the riverbank and adjacent private property from erosion; as well as, provide important spawning and rearing habit for coho and chum salmon.  The revetment will consist of spruce root wads, stone coble, and brush layers.  The Richardson Highway will be used to access the site during the construction.  The project is to begin in the summer/fall of 2020.
