Notice of Short-term Water Quality Variance Proposed for Remediation in Waters of the United States - Aeration of Deposited Seafood Waste Material in Kuluk Bay, Alaska

DEC has received Golden Harvest Alaska Seafood’s complete application for a short-term Water Quality Variance (WQV) for aeration of deposited seafood waste material in Kuluk Bay. DEC has prepared a draft short-term WQV for review. Prior to making the final decision to issue the WQV, DEC invites you to view the draft WQV and associated documents. Proposed Public Comment Period:
Start Date: November 29, 2019
End Date: December 30, 2019

Submitting Public Comment:
Persons wishing to comment on the application or WQV for this facility may do so in writing by the end date of the public comment period.

Proposed Activity & Location:
A temporary deposited seafood waste aeration activity in Kuluk Bay, adjacent to Adak, Alaska. The activity began mid-November 2019 and is planned to continue through April 2020. The proposed activity includes aeration of seafood processing waste deposits in an approximately 5-acre area of seafloor adjacent to the Golden Harvest Alaska Seafood facility.

Tentative Determination:
DEC has tentatively determined to issue a short-term WQV to the applicant for the purpose discussed above.
