Of the Final Best Interest Finding

For the

Beaufort Sea Areawide Oil and Gas Lease Sales, 2019-2028 

On July 12, 2019, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Oil and Gas (DO&G), gives notice under AS 38.05.945(b)(3) that it has issued a final written finding under AS 38.05.035(e)(5)(B), for the Beaufort Sea Areawide Oil and Gas Lease Sales from 2019 - 2028.

The DO&G director determined, and the DNR commissioner concurred that the potential benefits of Beaufort Sea Areawide oil and gas lease sales, as conditioned, outweigh the possible adverse impacts, and that the sales will best serve the interests of the State of Alaska. With the issuance of this final finding, DO&G may annually conduct lease sales in the area for up to 10 years with issuance of an annual supplement each subsequent year as necessary (AS 38.05.035(e)(6)(F)).  The final best interest finding is available on DOG’s website at

An eligible person affected by this written finding may request reconsideration of the decision, in accordance with 11 AAC 02. Any request for reconsideration must be received within 20 calendar days after the date of issuance of this finding, as defined in 11 AAC 02.040(c) and (d), and include the appropriate fee.

If no request for reconsideration is filed by that date, this finding goes into effect as a final order and decision on the 31st day after issuance. An eligible person must first request reconsideration of this written finding in accordance with 11 AAC 02 before appealing this finding to Superior Court. A copy of 11 AAC 02 is available from any DNR regional information office.
