NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (the Department) has concluded that the Fast Vehicle Ferries FAIRWEATHER and CHENEGA are excess to its present and future transportation needs. Consequently, the Department is exercising its authority under AS 19.05.040(8) to dispose of this property.
The Department is soliciting a statement of interest from any Alaska state agency or local government entities in Alaska seeking acquisition of the vessel(s) for a public purpose. A responsive statement must include details concerning the manner in which the respondent proposes to use the vessel(s) to serve a public purpose. Note that this request is merely an invitation for state agencies and local government to express their interest and the Department makes no assurance that it will dispose the vessel(s) to such entities.
The FAIRWEATHER and CHENEGA are high speed craft ferry vessels, originally constructed in 2002 and 2003 through 2004 and 2005. They are 235.5 feet long and 60.7 feet wide, with a domestic gross tonnage of 1,280, and a service speed of 32.0 knots. Each ferry is designed to carry 250 passengers and has a vehicle deck capacity totaling 704 linear feet, which is equal to approximately 35 twenty-foot vehicles.
The vessels are currently located in Ketchikan, Alaska.
