Notice of Total Maximum Daily Load for Turbidity in the Crooked Creek Watershed (Crooked Creek, Boulder Creek, Deadwood Creek and Ketchem Creek) near Central Alaska

Crooked Creek Watershed Draft TMDL Public Notice Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation

Division of Water, Water Quality Standards, Assessment and Restoration Program

Total Maximum Daily Load for Turbidity in the Crooked Creek Watershed (Crooked Creek, Boulder Creek, Deadwood Creek and Ketchem Creek) near Central, Alaska

Alaska’s Clean Water Act Section 303(d) List of Impaired Waterbodies includes several waterbodies near Central, Alaska for impairment by turbidity. Water quality samples repeatedly demonstrate exceedances of turbidity in Crooked, Boulder, Deadwood and Ketchem Creeks. A draft TMDL has been developed for the recovery of these water bodies and is available for public comment.

A TMDL is a “pollution budget” designed to restore the health of an impaired water body. A TMDL calculates how much pollution a water body can sustain and still meet the Alaska Water Quality Standards, and suggests ways to achieve this goal.
