DOT&PF NOTICE OF PROJECT UPDATE
AMHS Gustavus Ferry Terminal Improvements
Project Z-68128-0000

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to make improvements to the Gustavus Ferry terminal and the associated small boat mooring facilities in Gustavus, AK. This work involves removal and replacement of existing ferry terminal and harbor infrastructure.

The travelling public can expect a 3-month time period in which no ferry service can be provided, and the existing small boat harbor facilities cannot be utilized.

During construction of the project, DOT&PF anticipates closure of the Gustavus ferry terminal and disruption to the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry service as early as September 1, 2019 thru November 30, 2019, or as late as March 1, 2020 thru May 31, 2020.

DOT&PF is uncertain which time period construction would occur due to uncertainties associated with weather and the construction bid advertisement and construction contract award process.

The remainder of the dock and mooring structures not used for ferry or harbor operations would remain in service if needed for fuel or freight. Additional public notice of ferry service disruption will be provided at the earliest opportunity but no less than three months in advance of the selected construction timeframe and associated closure of the ferry terminal. This project was public noticed in the Juneau Empire and Capital City Weekly in December 2013, October 2014, and April 2018.

Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2019.
