ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc., Kuparuk River Unit- Road Improvements

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas (Division), has received nine Unit Plan of Operations amendment applications from ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc (CPAI) to improve existing gravel roads in the Kuparuk River Unit (KRU). The Division is providing public notice and an opportunity to comment under AS 38.05.035.

Location: Umiat Meridian (all); T11N, R8E, Sections 23, 24, 26, and 27; T11N, R9E, Sections 1, 11, 12, 14-16, 19-21, 29, and 32; T11N, R10E, Sections 5, 6, 8, and 9; T12N, R9E, Sections 2, 3, 10, 11, 15, 22, 23, 25, 26, and 36; T13N, R8E, Sections 25 and 36; and T13N, R9E, Sections 28 and 33.

Project Description: Approximately 26 miles of roads would be improved over a period of five years. The new road surface will be increased to approximately 35 feet wide and 6.5 feet above the ground surface for both main roads and drill site access roads.  The new toe-to-toe width will vary from 61 to 81 feet depending on terrain.  Road sections will be widened by one foot to 20 feet per side, resulting in approximately 48 acres of new road footprint.  Approximately 293,000 cubic yards of gravel would be placed in the new footprint.  Additional gravel would be placed on top of the existing road prism for a total gravel volume of 1,300,000 cubic yards. There are no new roads or road extensions planned with this project.
