Department of Education & Early Development Seeks Extended Availability of 2013 SIG Funds

The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development is planning to request a waiver to extend the availability of federal School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds awarded to the state in 2013.  These funds are currently being used by the department to fund grants to six schools in the state that have applied for and have been awarded funding to implement multi-year SIG interventions through June of 2021.  The sought after waiver, if approved, could extend the availability of these FY13 funds to September 30, 2018.  These funds are necessary to fully fund the existing six SIG grantees, and will not be used to award new grants.

This notice is to meet the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.  The public is invited to submit comments to the department by March 19, 2018.  Comments will be forwarded to the US Department of Education and should be submitted by email to Brad Billings at brad.billings@alaska.gov or by fax to (907) 465-2806.
