DOT&PF Notice of Intent to Begin Engineering & Environmental Studies: South Naknek Airport Runway Resurfacing Project SFAPT-00099

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration is developing a project at South Naknek Airport in South Naknek, Alaska to resurface Runway 13/31 (the main runway) with new gravel surfacing material.

Proposed project construction would

   • Re-grade and reshape the end of Runway 31 to construct a 240’ Runway Safety Area (RSA)
      over the original settled runway.

   • Clear brush and vegetation along the runway embankment fill slopes and within the 
      Obstacle Free Zone (OFZ).

   • Replace an existing cross culverts as needed on the both runways, and access roads.

   • Install new runway edge lighting system and trench for new conduit.

   • Construct new PAPI pads at both sides of the runway including trenching for power conduit. 

   • Seed and stabilize all disturbed earth.

Construction is projected to begin as early as Fall 2019

   • Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conserv. Mgt Act                   • EO-11988 Floodplain Management
