The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration under Section 326 of amended Chapter 3 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C. 326), and is soliciting comments and information on a proposal to resurface approximately 4.5 miles of Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway, from the Bethel Airport to Hangar Lake Road, in Bethel, Alaska.
The proposed work would also include:
Structural section repairs (e.g., digouts)
Drainage improvements (e.g., ditching, culvert replacement)
Signage
Striping
Bridge maintenance (e.g., joint repairs, painting, deck rehabilitation and/or repair)
Improvements to pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
Lighting
Traffic signals
Utility realignments
Vegetation clearing and grubbing
Guardrail and/or guardrail end treatments
This proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice); the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f). According to FEMA FIRMs #0201040042C and #0201040061C, the proposed project would encroach on a 100-year floodplain.
Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in Summer 2019. To ensure that all possible factors are considered, please provide written comments to the following address by August 19th, 2017.
