Notice of Availability of Draft Environmental Assessment

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration, is soliciting comments on a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed project to address poor pavement conditions of Runway (RW) 15/33 and maintain the safety and efficiency of airport operations at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska.  The project will rehabilitate RW 15/33 (the north/south runway), widen the runway, update taxiway (TW) geometry to meet FAA standards, shift the runway ends to separate RW 15/33 and RW 7L/25R the runway safety areas, replace RW and TW lighting, and replace and upgrade the approach lighting system.  All improvements will occur on airport property. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring 2018. In order to complete this work, RW 15/33 will need to be closed to operations for 1 or 2 construction seasons.  Air traffic will be shifted to the east-west runways during construction. The Draft EA addresses the proposed action and potential environmental effects.

This project has been developed in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice), 11593 (Historic Preservation), 13084 (Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments), the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f).
