DOT&PF Southcoast Region Notice of Intent to Begin Eng. & Env. Studies & Request for Comments: Tenakee Springs Ferry Terminal Improvements Project #68145 / 0991006
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) proposes to make improvements to the Tenakee Springs Ferry Terminal.
The proposed project would:
Remove
• And replace the existing 12’ by 240’ approach dock decking and install several
additional steel pipe pile supports.
• Existing City storage and fuel building and pile-supported dock and timber fender piles.
• Existing steel float and platform and associated steel pipe piles
three 3-pile berthing and mooring dolphins.
Install
• 50’ by 70’ pile supported ferry staging dock.
• 50’ by 60’ pile supported dock with new fuel building and associated dock
mounted fender system.
• 11’ by 90’ steel transfer bridge and pile supported abutment.
• Steel bridge support float with adjustable intermediate ramp and apron,
and two 4-pile float restraint dolphins.
• Four 4-pile berthing dolphins.
• Ferry Access skiff float and associated steel pipe pile restraints.
The project would also re-establish the existing electrical system and the fueling system.
Construction is projected for spring 2019
Development of this proposed project would follow a process required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Based on project location and scope of work, the environmental document would be a categorical exclusion (CE). Possible affected resources include waters of the U.S., eagles, endangered species, marine mammals, and cultural or historic properties.
The project would comply with all authorities, including:

• Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation Mgt Act • Clean Water Act
• EO-11593 (Protect & Enhance Cultural Env.) • EO-12898 (Env. Justice)
• EO-13007 (Indian Sacred Sites) • EO-11988 (Floodplain Mgt.)
• EO-11990 (Protect Wetlands) • EO-13112 (Invasive Species)
