The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and DOWL have advanced the project design to a preferred alternative for the proposed Mendenhall Loop Road Capacity Improvement Project, between Nancy Street and Back Loop Road.

The project would

Floyd Dryden Access Rd., and Mendenhall Blvd.
     • Reconfigure turn lanes including construction of median islands
     • Rehabilitate pavement
     • Make minor realignments

     • Relocate utility poles
     • Vacate Mendenhall Loop Rd. access where possible

Development of this proposed project would follow a process required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Possible affected resources include wetlands, waters of the U.S., essential fish habitat.

The project would comply with all applicable Acts & Executive Orders including:

     • EO-13175 (Consult & Coordinate w/ Indian Tribal Gov )
     • Bald & Gold Eagle Protection Act
     • Clean Air & Clean Water Acts

     • EO-11988 (Floodplain Mgt)
     • EO-13112 (Invasive Species)
     • EO-11990 (Protect Wetlands)
