Notice of Intent to Begin Engineering and Environmental Studies Toksook Bay Airport and Access Road Improvements

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Alaska Division of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is soliciting comments and information on a proposed project to rehabilitate and improve the Toksook Bay Airport and airport access road in Toksook Bay, Alaska.

The proposed work would include the following:

Rehabilitate the existing runway (RW) 16-34
Rehabilitate the existing taxiway (TW)
Extend and/or widen the Runway Safety Area (RSA) and Taxiway Safety Area (TSA) to meet B-II safety area standards
Extend the runway protection zones (RPZs)
Rehabilitate and widen the existing airport access road
Construct a new, heated, single bay snow removal equipment building (SREB), including associated electrical work, fuel lines, and fuel storage
Geotechnical investigation drilling (Figure 2)
Install new lighting on TW and RW 16-34
Improve, replace, or extend culverts
Apply dust palliative to apron, RW, TW, and access road

The proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice), the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f).

Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in spring 2018. To ensure that all possible factors are considered, please provide written comments to the following address by March 20, 2017.
