The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) proposes to issue Solid Waste Disposal Permit No. SW3A163, to the Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan, to operate a Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill.

APPLICANT INFORMATION:
Location:   The Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan is located on the east bank of the Chilkat River approximately 22 miles northwest of Haines.  The legal description of the landfill is:  Township 28 South, Range 56 East, Section 32, Copper River Meridian.  The landfill is owned and operated by the Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The public notice is for an existing landfill that has not been previously permitted.  The landfill serves 93 residents in the Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan.  It is estimated that the community will produce 102 tons of solid waste per year. The 1.2-acre site will include a fenced solid waste disposal area, a stockpile of cover material, a burn unit, and a separate salvage area for vehicles and scrap metal.
