Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Draft Plan available for public comment

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Draft Plan available for public comment

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is the federal program that funds state and local workforce initiatives and provides a variety of job training services for adults and youth. In Alaska, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development is the state agency designated to receive WIOA funds and implement its provisions. WIOA requires states to submit a four-year workforce plan to the USDOL. The writing of a new strategic workforce development plan is a major opportunity for Alaska. WIOA emphasizes sector partnerships, career pathways, cross-program data and measurement, and job-driven investments. Our state plan describes the workforce development system that Alaskans want, and explains how we will use WIOA and other state and federal programs to achieve that vision. The state plan must be submitted to the US Department of Labor by April 1, 2016.

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development invites public comment on the draft four-year WIOA plan for Alaska. Comments will be accepted through February 23, 2016.
