Notice of Preliminary Decision to Approve Columbia River Carbonates' Application for an Air Quality Control Minor Permit for the Calder Mine

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has made a preliminary decision to approve Columbia River Carbonates’ (Columbia) application for AirQuality Control Minor Permit AQ0483MSS03 for the Calder Mine.

Activity:

Columbia’s application is classified under 18 AAC 50.508(6) for revising and rescinding the terms and conditions of a Title I permit. Columbia plans to install a propane generator under their existing owner requested limit, and a used oil heater.

Emissions:

Emissions will increase by 0.1 tpy for NOx, 0.1 tpy for PM-10, 0.1 tpy for PM-2.5 and 0.2 tpy for SO2.

Based on review of the application, ADECdrafted a preliminary permit decision for this project under AS 46.14 and 18 AAC 50.

Opportunity for Public Participation:

Notice is also given that any interested person may present written statements relevant to the draft documents within 30 days after the first publication date. ADEC will consider all comments received and make any changes ADEC finds beneficial or necessary to assure compliance with 18 AAC 50 or State Law. ADEC will issue a final decision to issue or deny the permit after the close of the public comment period.
