The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has completed a permit application review for the existing landfill which serves Saint Mary’s and Pitka’s Point, and has determined the application is complete. ADEC proposes to issue Solid Waste Disposal Permit No. SW3A151-20, to the City of Saint Mary’s, to operate the existing Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill.

LOCATION: The Saint Mary’s Landfill is accessible by road and located west of Saint Mary’s and north of Pitka’s Point, and east of the Saint Mary’s airport within Section 29, Township 23 North, Range 76 West, Seward Meridian.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The landfill will serve the approximately 550 residents of Saint Mary’s and the 117 residents of Pitka’s Point. It is estimated that these communities will produce approximately 608 tons of solid waste per year. The 3 acre site includes a burn unit for waste volume reduction, solid waste disposal cells, and a salvage area.
