Notice of Proposal to Issue a Solid Waste Disposal Permit to the Ekwok Village Council to Operate a new Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) proposes to issue Solid Waste Disposal Permit No. SW3A114-19, to the Ekwok Village Council, to operate a new Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill.

APPLICANT INFORMATION:
Landowner: Ekwok Natives, Limited
Landfill Operator: Ekwok Village Council 

LOCATION:  
The New Ekwok Landfill is accessible by road located northwest of the community, west of the Ekwok airport, and west of Klutuk Creek within Section 34, Township 9 South, Range 49 West, Seward Meridian. Ekwok lies on the North bank of the Nushagak River, approximately 87 miles upriver from Nushagak Bay, in the Bristol Bay Recording District in southwest Alaska.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The landfill will serve the 115 residents of Ekwok.  It is estimated that the community will produce 150 tons of solid waste per year. The 8.21 acre site will include a burn unit for waste volume reduction, a solid waste disposal cell, and a salvage area.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
ADEC is seeking comment regarding the proposed project only.  Notice is given that any person interested may present written comments relevant to the proposed Permit to ADEC.  Written comments will be included in the record if received before 5:00 p.m. on May 2nd, 2014.  Submit written comments regarding the project to Stephen Price, ADEC Division of Environmental Health, Solid Waste Program, 555 Cordova St., Anchorage, Alaska 99501, Fax: (907) 269-7600, email stephen.price@alaska.gov.
