Project Description:
Pebble Limited Partnership proposes to place a polyethylene floating dock on a
lake to support their mineral exploration project. The dock would be no larger
than 13 by 30 feet (for a total of 390 square feet) and would be placed in “Big
Wiggly” aka Butterfly Lake seasonally from May through October. Placement of
the dock would involve driving 3 inch diameter steel rods/posts in the lake
bottom by hand using a 10 pound sledgehammer. The dock would then be attached
to shore via ropes tied to rebar anchor pins driven into the ground by
hand/sledgehammer.
The purpose of the dock is to facilitate fuel storage for the
helicopter-supported exploration project closer to work sites. Fuel is flown
in via airplane and pumped to existing & previously authorized storage tanks.
Wooden walkways placed on the tundra vegetation would be attached to the dock
and would extend up to the fuel storage area. Two helipads are also in place
to protect tundra vegetation while landing helicopters to refuel.
