Alaska Mountain Guides Adventures, Inc.

In accordance with AS 38.05.035, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (“DNR”), Division of Mining, Land and Water (“DMLW”), Southeast Regional Land Office issued a preliminary decision for the following:

APPLICANT: Alaska Mountain Guides Adventures, Inc.

PROJECT NAME: ADL 107159

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: State uplands along the Klondike Highway, Skagway

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: An unsurveyed portion within Lot 8 USS 5110 in Section 17, Township 27 South, Range 60 East, Copper River Meridian, consisting of approximately 3.5 acres, more or less

PROPOSED ACTION: Issuance of a lease authorizing a commercial recreation operation involving rock climbing and ziplining tours on state land. For more information, please see the decision documents attached to this notice.

PROPOSED LEASE TERM: 25-years; effective April 1, 2019 through March 31, 2044

COMMENT DEADLINE: May 21, 2018

The public is invited to comment on this preliminary decision. Comments must be received in writing no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 21, 2018.  All comments must be submitted to: Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water, Southeastern Regional Office by mail at 400 Willoughby Avenue, P.O. Box 111020, Juneau, Alaska 99811-1020, by fax at (907) 465-3886, or by electronic mail to megs.harris@alaska.gov. Please include your mailing address and telephone contact. In order to establish appeal rights regarding this decision, you are required by law to meaningfully participate in the decision process by commenting on this preliminary decision, in writing, prior to the comment deadline. Following the deadline, all timely written comments will be considered, and the DNR may modify this decision based on public comments received.

If the DNR determines that public comments in response to this notice indicate the need for significant changes to the decision, additional public notice will be given. If no significant changes are required, the preliminary decision, after any necessary minor changes, will be issued as a final decision. A copy of the final decision, along with instructions on filing an appeal, will be sent to all persons who comment on the preliminary decision. Persons who do not submit written comments during the comment period will have no legal right to appeal the final decision.

Public notice of this preliminary decision will be posted on the Alaska Public Notice System website for 30 calendar days. The public may provide written comments to the DNR during that time. Additionally, notice of this preliminary decision will be given to adjacent landowners. The DNR will also request that the Skagway Post Office post the notice of this preliminary decision.
