Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: University of Alaska
PROJECT NAME: LAS 33509
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: within waterbodies around the Nome area within the Kateel River Meridian.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: See attached list of site locations
REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) has received a land use permit application from the University of Alaska (UA). The applicant proposes to study beaver activity, stream hydrology, and vegetation structure within stream and river environments (see attached project description). UA is proposing to utilize 18 sites within the Kateel River Meridian and plan to place equipment at each site consisting of 20 channel and riparian piezometers, 1-2 game cameras, temperature sensors, and pressure transducers. Each site will also have 1 buoy tethered to the bottom and with temperature sensors. The proposed sites will be accessed by highway vehicle and then by foot in the summer months and by snow machine in the winter months.
Some of the proposed sites are not located on state land. UA will work with other land managers and landowners on access and placement of equipment at such sites.
PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
5-year term: 2021-2026
