Notice of Utility Tariff Filing

The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that on January 14, 2015, Sprint Communications Company L.P. (Sprint), Alaska’s Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) provider, filed tariff advice filing TA3-750, proposing revisions to its Equipment Distribution Program (EDP). The EDP portion of the TRS program provides free text telephones or captioned telephones enabling a deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-impaired individual the ability to communicate by telephone and through other means with a hearing individual.

Specifically, Sprint proposes to eliminate the current income eligibility requirement that must be met to qualify for a free text telephone or captioned telephone under the EDP. In addition to an audiologist or the Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, TA3-750 also proposes to authorize Sprint’s TRS Relay Ambassador to make the required assessment for EDP, determining whether an individual is deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-impaired for qualification purposes.
