Notice of Public Comment Period for Proposed Changes to the Alaska Regional Response Team’s Oil Dispersant Authorization Policy

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, US Coast Guard, and the Environmental Protection Agency are seeking public input on one of several proposed changes to the joint Alaska Federal/State Preparedness Plan for Response to Oil and Hazardous Substance Discharges/Release (i.e. The Unified Plan). The public comment period for Annex F, Appendix I (Alaska Regional Response Team Oil Dispersant Authorization Plan) will remain open through February 14, 2014, and is being opened prior to public comment on the other topics to maximize opportunity for public input and to coincide with a multi-agency, public outreach effort.

Public meetings discussing these proposed changes were held in King Salmon, Anchorage, Kodiak, Valdez, and Dutch Harbor between November 13 and December 6, 2013.  Meetings were announced by radio, newspaper, internet, and by letters to known stakeholders, native corporations, and federally recognized tribes.  An additional public outreach meeting will be held in Anchorage to receive feedback from federally recognized tribes at the Dena'ina Center (600 W 7th Ave) during the Alaska Forum on the Environment from February 3-7, 2014.
