The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration under Section 326 of amended Chapter 3 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C. 326), and is soliciting comments and information on a proposal to install continuous lighting along the Glenn Highway from MP 27 to MP 31. The proposed project is located in the Municipality of Anchorage and Mat-Su Borough, Alaska. The purpose of this proposed project is to increase visibility to reduce the number of vehicle accidents during non-daylight hours.  The proposed work would include:

-Installing luminaires approximately 300 feet apart along both sides of the Glenn Highway;
-Installing and/or replacing fog lighting on the Knik River Bridge and the two Matanuska River bridges;
-Installing four hightower lights at the Old Glenn Highway Interchange; and
-Installing conduit and seven load centers in support of the luminaires and hightowers.

This proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice), the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f).

Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in Spring/Summer 2014. To ensure that all possible factors are considered, please provide written comments to the following address by May 20, 2013.
