Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development

The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will hold a board meeting and a business meeting virtually June 3, 2026. Public participation for the meeting will be through the digital platform Zoom. The board meeting will begin on June 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., and the work session and business meeting will begin on June 4, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Members of the public may participate either in person or virtually via Zoom.

The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items starting at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. Public comment may be made for this meeting during this time by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://education-alaska-gov.zoom.us/j/87907832961 by calling (833) 928-4609 (toll free) and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad (Meeting ID 879 0783 2961).
Please note that public testimony may extend for up to two hours. The Board may adjust the agenda as needed. This includes extending the oral hearing to accommodate individuals present at the start of the public testimony who have not yet had an opportunity to speak or close the public comment period early and proceeding to the next agenda item if testimony concludes before the time period.
The purpose of the meeting is to hold a professional development workshop, a work session, a business meeting, and an executive session.
Topics at the professional development workshop will include committee meetings, reports and discussion; a presentation on Teacher Turnover and Preliminary Educator Exit and Stay data; a presentation on traumatic brain injury legislation; an overview of the Green to Teach Initiative; and a PTPC Report to the Board.
Topics for the work session will include consideration of conditional accreditation approval for the Master of Arts in Teaching Indigenous Languages program; discussion of MEHS Ad Hoc Committee and MEHS Advisory Board members; review of the SBOE Strategic Plan SMART Goals approve for public comment; a presentation on the MEHS budget review; and questions regarding standing reports.
Topics for the business meeting will include the Board Member Oath of Office, public comment, and consideration of conditional accreditation approval for the University of Alaska Southeast Master of Arts in Teaching Indigenous Languages program. The Board will also receive the Commissioner’s End of Year Report and consider approval of MEHS Ad Hoc Committee members, MEHS Advisory Board members, and the SBOE Strategic Plan SMART Goals for public comment. Additional action items include approval of the Career & Technical Education Committee Awards for Recognition Program, selection of meeting dates and locations, subcommittee appointments, and selection of officers. The Board will also consider the consent agenda, including approval of the March 10-11, 2026 meeting minutes, convene in executive session for the Commissioner's evaluation, and conclude with board comments.
The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board reserves the right to adjourn earlier or later than estimated time on the agenda.
