APMA F20195963 - A Hardrock Exploration Application within the Hot Springs Mining District - Elephant Mountain Project

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has received a Multi-Agency Application for Permits to Mine in Alaska (APMA 5963) for hardrock exploration in the Hot Springs Mining District near the town of Manley Hot Springs. The mining related activity is located within Township 006 N, Range 011 W, Fairbanks Meridian. The USGS 1:250,000 Quadrangle is Tanana and Livengood. APMA forms include applications for Miscellaneous Land Use Permits (MLUPs), Approved Plan of Operations, and Reclamation Plan Approvals for a mining operation.

The Mining Section of the Division of Mining, Land and Water proposes to issue a MLUP pursuant to 11 AAC 96.010 for mining and/or exploration activity as well as reclamation approval on state lands. Winter cross country travel on state lands not within state mining locations may also be authorized.

State land use beyond the mining locations will be adjudicated by DNR separately.

This is a courtesy notice provided to the public. Your comments about this activity will receive consideration even though this is a courtesy notice provided they are received within 14 days from the posting date of this notice. Your comments on the MLUP should be submitted to the same contacts listed in the preceding paragraph.

Other State Agencies which use or review the APMA application include the Departments of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Fish and Game (ADF&G) and Revenue (DOR). Federal Agencies include the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), and U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) also reviews this application. These agencies adjudicate or review this application for the permits they may require for mining related activities.
