PROJECT SUMMARY AND LOCATION: JBER has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply pesticide to stagnant waters on up to 10 acres within JBER to control mosquitoes. The intent of the project is to reduce impacts from mosquitoes.
The proposed products is Fourstar Briquettes 90 with EPA registration number 83362-3 and active ingredients bacillus sphaericus and bacillus thuringiensis. Treatment is proposed to occur as needed between May and August throughout the duration of the permit.
PROJECT NEED: Mosquitoes can interfere with military operations by making outdoor activities extremely uncomfortable. They can also distract workers in the performance of their jobs, which may pose a hazard, especially for flightline workers. Use of bacillus bacteria that are target specific to mosquitoes will reduce mosquito populations with the least possible impact to the environment. A pesticide use permit is required to apply pesticides, including bacillus bacteria, to water.
