Notice of Utility Tariff Filing
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that Matanuska Electric Association, Inc. (MEA) filed TA503-18 proposing to add a new cost element to its Cost of Power Adjustment (COPA) surcharge calculation. The proposed new cost element will allow MEA to recover the cost associated with purchased power from various Independent Power Producers (IPP).
MEA has historically sought Commission approval for individual IPP cost elements on a case-by-case basis when IPPs have interconnected with MEA. With TA503-18, MEA proposes adding a new line item to its tariff sheet to ensure that future IPP power purchases can be timely flowed through MEA’s COPA as new entities interconnect. MEA states that the new line item will provide transparency to its tariff and that it will communicate to tariff readers that MEA has an approved cost element for IPP power purchases. In addition, MEA states that as technology improves, it will serve as a placeholder in the event that an IPP may be able to provide MEA with firm power whereby future purchases could be reasonably projected.
This notice does not contain every pertinent revision or request associated with the filing and the Commission may approve a rule change which varies from that proposed.
