Regulations dealing with oil spill prevention, contingency plans and financial responsibility requirements were adopted by the Department of Environmental Conservation on July 2, 2018, with an effective date of October 27, 2018. The regulations have been made permanent and have been filed by the Lt. Governor. The regulations will appear in Register 228, January 2019, of the Alaska Administrative Code. The regulations changes are summarized as follows:
The requirements for oil spill prevention, and contingency plans were clarified and the deadline for applications for nontank vessel financial responsibility renewal were amended so that applications are received no earlier than 90 days before operations are proposed to begin.
