NOTICE OF PROPOSED CHANGES IN THE
REGULATIONS OF THE VIOLENT CRIMES COMPENSATION BOARD
The Violent Crimes Compensation Board proposes to adopt regulation changes in Title 2, Chapter 80, of the Alaska Administrative Code dealing with the Violent Crimes Compensation Board application process for compensation, including the following:
- 2 AAC 80.010 (a) is proposed to be amended to include online applications;
- 2 AAC 80.010 (b) is proposed to be amended to outline the documentation required by the Violent Crimes Compensation Board in order to substantiate a claim for compensation;
- 2 AAC 80.015 is proposed to be amended to explain the claim investigation process and to provide explicitly for confidentiality of applications;
- 2 AAC 80.020 is proposed to be amended to clarify the appeal hearing process;
- 2 AAC 80.050 is proposed to be amended to provide that Alaskan residents who are victims of violent crime (other than terrorism) in a foreign country without a compensation program may apply for compensation from the Violent Crimes Compensation Board;
- 2 AAC 80.060 is proposed to be amended to reflect how board awards are paid;
- 2 AAC 80.080 (b) is proposed to be amended to change the way in which the Violent Crimes Compensation Board deals with requests for waiver of repayment obligations;
- 2AAC 80.090 is proposed to be amended to include and take account of online applications
- 2 AAC 80.110 is proposed to be amended by updating definitions.
You may comment on the proposed regulation changes, including the potential costs to private persons of complying with the proposed changes, by submitting written comments to Kate Hudson, Executive Director, Violent Crimes Compensation Board, P.O. The Violent Crimes Compensation Board will aggregate its response to substantially similar questions and make the questions and responses available on the Alaska Online Public Notice System and on the Violent Crimes Compensation Board’s website.

After the public comment period ends, the Violent Crimes Compensation Board will either adopt these or other provisions dealing with the same subject, without further notice, or decide to take no action on them. The language of the final regulations may vary from that of the proposed regulations. YOU SHOULD COMMENT DURING THE TIME ALLOWED IF YOUR INTERESTS COULD BE AFFECTED.
