Notice of Utility Tariff Filing
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that Matanuska Electric Association, Inc. (MEA) filed TA480-18 proposing to add a new cost element to its Cost of Power Adjustment surcharge calculation. The proposed new cost element will allow MEA to recover costs from short-term, interruptible purchases of natural gas.
MEA has purchased fuel on a short term basis from Cook Inlet Energy, LLC and Furie Operating Alaska, LLC (Furie) for the purpose of generating economy energy. Additionally, MEA states that it will have reason to continue to make purchases of short-term gas in the future when it is in the utility’s economic interest to do so. MEA states that the duration of purchases recovered through the proposed cost element would not meet the contract duration criteria requiring prior Commission approval in 3 AAC 52.470(d) or (e). Therefore, while MEA has provided a copy of its contract with Furie to support the proposed cost element, it is not requesting Commission review or approve it.
