Notice of Utility Tariff Filing
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that McGrath Light and Power Company (MLPC) filed a tariff revision designated as TA136-44, requesting Commission approval of revised language describing the deadline for filing its Cost of Power Adjustment (COPA). MLPC proposes to revise the existing tariff language to require a COPA filing by October 1st of each year and within 45 days of the end of a month in which the balancing account balance exceeds 10 percent of the annual fuel and purchased power costs.
MLPC’s current tariff language states that a filing will be made within 45 days of fuel purchases if the price of fuel changes. MLPC typically receives its fuel in two or three shipments during the summer months when the Upper Kuskokwim River is navigable by barge. For example, this year MLPC received two shipments in July, one on July 3rd and one on July 26th. The proposed revisions are intended to prevent “pancaked” COPA filings.
