REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Intergravel temperature monitoring will be conducted at single locations within each stream at a site of Chinook or Coho spawning. At each site, self-logging intergravel temperature probes will be deployed to collect ambient air temperature, stream suface water temperature, and inter-gravel water temperatures to a depth of 1 meter at 10cm intervals within the zone of redd excavation. Temperature probes are encapsulated into a cosume-made thermistor strings and will be inserted into the gravel using a steel pipe and probe installation device. Temperature probes will be deployed in early August during the trail of the Chinook and at the start of the Coho spawning periods. Temperature will be collected over the course of 2016-17 and 2017-18 incubation seasons. Data loggers will transmit data in real-time through satellite connections to allow for redundancy in data storage and avoid data loss. Seasonally schedulaed site visits will be made to each location to inspect field equipment and gather additional water temperature, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity spot check measurements using an YSI meter.
