NOTICE OF CARRIER PETITION REGARDING PUBLIC INTEREST PAY TELEPHONES
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that on April 21, 2016, Mukluk Telephone Company, Inc. (MTC) filed a petition requesting approval to transition all nine Public Interest Pay Telephones (PIPTs) in its service area to coinless telephones. MTC also requested authorization to relocate the PIPT in Koyuk from the washeteria to the Koyuk Community Hall. Docket No. U-16-048 was opened to address this matter.
MTC notes that, if approved, the PIPTs would no longer accept coins in payment for completing any call, but that all local calls would be completed without charge and that calling card payment would be accepted for connecting any long distance toll calls. No change to the annual Alaska Universal Service Fund support level previously approved by the Commission for any affected PIPTs is requested.
This notice does not address in detail all of the points contained in the filing. The Commission may approve or deny, in whole or in part the carrier’s petition, impose conditions on approval, or take actions to protect public interest.
