PROJECT SUMMARY AND LOCATION: The Alaska Division of Agriculture has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply herbicide to portions of Chena Lake, Chena Slough, and Totchaket Slough in Interior Alaska.
The proposed products include SonarGenesis with EPA registration number 67690-54, and SonarONE with EPA registration number 67690-45, and H4C with EPA registration number 67690-61. All products have the active ingredient fluridone. Treatment is proposed to occur between June and October throughout the duration of the permit.
PROJECT NEED: Elodea is an invasive aquatic plant that has the potential to grow abundantly and compromise water quality, hinder boat and float plane traffic, reduce dissolved oxygen, and impact fisheries. Early control of this invasive plant will help prevent spread to other locations. Physical or mechanical controls are inappropriate to the proposed treatment areas, as these methods can fragment the plant which can then reproduce.
