Notice of Carrier Petition to Disconnect Public Interest Pay Telephone
The REGULATORY COMMISSION OF ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that Summit Telephone & Telegraph Company of Alaska, Inc., d/b/a Summit Telephone Company, Inc. (Summit) filed a petition on August 27, 2015, requesting approval to disconnect service to the public interest pay telephone (PIPT) currently designated by the Commission for public use, located at the Chena Hot Springs Resort at 56.5 Chena Hot Springs Road, Fairbanks, Alaska 99711. Docket U-15-108 has been opened to address this matter.
According to the petition, Summit leased space for a central office and for the PIPT however, the lease ended on August 10, 2015, and was not renewed. The petition further states that Summit attempted to secure an acceptable, alternate location for the PIPT in the area, but as of yet has been unable to identify such a location. The petition contends that in the event that another location is found, Summit will re-petition the Commission to install a new PIPT in the Chena Hot Springs area.
The Commission may approve or deny, in whole or in part, the carrier’s request, impose conditions on approval, or take other actions to protect the public interest.
