LAS 33513-Land Use Permit for field camp on the North Slope for the US Navy Arctic Submarine Laboratory

UNDERSEA WARFIGHTING DEVELOPMENT CENTER ARCTIC SUBMARINE LABORATORY US. NAVY

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Undersea Wartime Development Center Arctic Submarine Laboratory

PROJECT NAME: LAS 33513

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Project will be located on the east side of Lake Colleen located approximately 70.212N, 148.441 W in Deadhorse Alaska.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Withing Section 19 of Township 10North, Range 15 East, Umiat Meridian.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Undersea Warfighting Development Center is requesting a 5-year land use permit to utilize a portion of Lake Colleen in early spring for an Arctic Exercise (ARCEX). The project will include an 80 ft X 80 ft temporary camp and adjacent 50 ft X 750 ft area for testing ice runway equipment. The purpose of the ARCEX is to test and evaluate equipment that will utilized in a larger US Navy Ice Exercise (ICEX). ARCEX will be testing vehicles, snow removal equipment, shelters, communication equipment, and survival gear over a 10 day period.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start: February 13, 2021
End: February 12, 2025

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: 5 pm on Thursday January 28, 2021 

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Northern Regional Land Office, 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
