REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), Northern Regional Land Office (NRO) has received an application from James Hansen for a permit for summer cross country travel to access his mining claims in the area of Windy Creek. The applicant proposes to travel via a Bombardier “muskeg” tracked vehicle with a small backhoe attachment, as well as a Polaris 6x6 ATV, transporting a 55 gallon drum of fuel over existing trails and established routes in the area. The total trips proposed is 1 round trip per year, totaling approximately 50 miles.

If authorized, this permit would only authorize travel on State managed lands. One section along the proposed route, Section 1 of K001S031W, does not appear to be state lands. The applicant would be required to either circumvent this section or acquire permission from the underlaying land owner for the activity. All activities occurring on claim block are being adjudicated through the applicants Application for Permits to Mine in Alaska (APMA) F20209511.

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity.
