Notice of Proposal to Issue an Air Quality Control Minor Permit and a Significant Revision to the Title V Operating Permit for the United States Air Force's Eareckson Air Station

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has made a preliminary decision to approve United States Air Force’s application for Air Quality Control Minor Permit AQ0307MSS04 for the Eareckson Air Station. Additionally, ADEC proposes to issue a significant revision to the Title V operating permit using the integrated review procedures described in 18 AAC 50.326(c)(1).

Applicant:      United States Air Force

Location:       Shemya Island, Alaska

Activity:         United States Air Force’s application is classified under 18 AAC 50.508(5) and (6)

Emissions:     The permit authorizes the following increase in potential emissions: 3.3 tpy NOx, 2.9 tpy of SO2, and 0.8 tpy CO, 0.2 tpy of PM-10, PM-2.5, and VOC.

ADEC Preliminary Review: Based on review of the application, ADEC drafted a preliminary permit decision for this project under AS 46.14 and 18 AAC 50.

Opportunity for Public Participation:

Any interested person may present written statements relevant to the draft documents, as long as they are received within the timeframe listed below. ADEC will consider all comments received and make any changes ADEC finds beneficial or necessary to assure compliance with 18 AAC 50 or State Law. ADEC will issue a final decision to issue or deny the permit after the close of the public comment period. Any person may request a public hearing and that hearing will be held if ADEC finds that good cause exists.
