Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC FACILITIES
PROJECT NAME: ADL 108877 Katlian Bay Road
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Halibut Point Road, Sitka & Katlian Bay
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: CRM, T 55 S, R 63 E, Sections 2 & 3; CRM, T 54 S, R 63 E, Sections 34 & 35
REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Applicant requests a public easement to construct 1.16 miles of unpaved single-lane roadway across state land as part of an approximate 9-mile connector road to logging roads at the head of Katlian Bay. The City and Borough of Sitka has a road system that currently provides limited passenger vehicle access for recreation and subsistence activities in the area. Sitka has a shortage of developable material sources for future projects on its existing road system. The purpose of the proposed action is to provide increased recreational and subsistence opportunities on Baranof Island within NFS lands of the Tongass National Forest, Sitka Ranger District, and opportunity for development of new material sources on State, Federal, and Native Corporation lands.
REQUESTED TERM: For so long as required for the designated use.

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at Southeast Regional Land Office, Juneau, AK 99811-1020 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
