Alaska’s Clean Water Act Section 303(d) List of Impaired Waterbodies includes Boulder and Deadwood Creeks near Central, Alaska for impairment by turbidity. Water quality samples repeatedly demonstrate exceedances of turbidity in both Boulder and Deadwood Creeks. A draft TMDL has been developed for the recovery of these water bodies and is available for public comment.
A TMDL is a “pollution budget” designed to restore the health of an impaired water body. A TMDL calculates how much pollution a water body can sustain and still meet the Alaska Water Quality Standards, and suggests ways to achieve this goal.
