Notice of a Permit Application for Operation of a Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill - Pelican, Alaska

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has determined that the permit application, submitted by the City of Pelican for operation of a Class III municipal solid waste landfill in Pelican, Alaska, is complete. ADEC is proposing to issue Solid Waste Permit SW3A199-23 to the City of Pelican for the disposal of solid waste.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Location: Approximately 0.3 miles northwest of Pelican in Section 18, Township 45S, Range: 57E, Copper River Meridian.  Latitude: 57.964305, Longitude: -136.235745

This public notice is for an existing landfill that has operated as an unpermitted facility since it was constructed. The landfill will serve the 88 residents of the City of Pelican. It is estimated that the community will produce 113 tons of solid waste per year. The approximately one acre site includes a Summit Burn box, a solid waste and ash disposal cell, a storage area for scrap metal, and a stockpile of cover material..

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:

ADEC is seeking comment regarding the proposed project only. Notice is given that any person interested may present written comments relevant to the proposed permit to ADEC. Written comments will be included in the record if received before 5:00 p.m. on May 6, 2018. Submit written comments to:
