Notice of Proposal to Renew Air Quality Control Operating Permit to Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo, LLC, Pogo Mine

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) proposes to issue Air Quality Control Operating Permit No. AQ0406TVP02 to Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo, LLC for the Pogo Mine, under Alaska Statutes 46.14 and regulation 18 AAC 50.

Application:           March 2, 2017 

Emissions:              The potential annual emissions of regulated air pollutants from the emission units directly involved with gold production at the source will not exceed: 0.4 ton PM, 1.7 tons NOx, 0.8 ton SO2, 0.04 tons of CO, 1.6 tons of VOCs, and 0.3 tons Mercury.  The total emissions of regulated air pollutants is 4.9 tons per year.

ADEC Preliminary Review: Based on review of the application, ADEC drafted a preliminary permit decision for the Pogo Mine.

Available Information: Copies of ADEC’s draft Operating Permit and Statement of Basis are available at ADEC’s Anchorage office, 555 Cordova St, Anchorage, AK 99501, (907) 269-7577 and 410 Willoughby Ave, Juneau, AK 99801, (907) 465 5124.

The administrative record for this permit is available for review at ADEC’s Anchorage office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

The draft Operating Permit and Statement of Basis are also available at the Department’s website at: http://dec.alaska.gov/Applications/Air/airtoolsweb/AirPermitsApprovalsAndPublicNotices .

Opportunity for Public Participation: Notice is also given that any interested person may present written statements relevant to the draft documents by the close of the public comment period.  Written comments will be included in the record if received by close of the comment period.  ADEC will consider all comments received and make any changes ADEC finds beneficial or necessary to assure compliance with 18 AAC 50 or State Law.  Any person may request a public hearing and that hearing will be held if ADEC finds that good cause exists.  ADEC will issue a final decision to issue or deny the permit after the close of the public comment period.  ADEC complies with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
