Notice of Depreciation Filing
The REGULATORY COMMISSION of ALASKA (Commission) gives notice that on December 30,2014, Alaska Electric Light and Power Company (AEL&P) filed a depreciation study proposing new depreciation rates. Docket No. U-14-120 was opened to address this matter.
Depreciation expense is a material cost of business that may be recovered through regulated utility rates. As a result, a change in depreciation expense might eventually lead to a change in a utility rate that consumers pay. No change in consumer rates is proposed by this filing.
The depreciation study is based upon AEL&P plant balances as of December 31, 2013. The proposed depreciation rates would reduce AEL&P’s annual depreciation expense by $19,089, a decrease of 0.4 percent of AEL&P’s total depreciation expense. AEL&P requested an effective date of January 1, 2015 for the new depreciation rates.
The Commission may approve, deny, or modify, in whole or in part, the depreciation rates proposed by AEL&P. The Commission may set conditions on approval.
